అ Explorations

Here are 6 Typographic explorations done using the first character in Telugu ‘అ’ for a 6 page Calendar. These outline the delicate relationship of Mother and child at different stages. For she is the most valued, honoured and worshipped subject universally, for her unconditional love.

1.Basically, the shape resembles a child in mother’s womb as well as mother holding a newborn in her arms.

2) The overall form is a ‘Heart’ shape. The letterforms inside the symbol read అమ్మ (Amma). The extension of the closed counter of ‘అ’ and the extension of ‘మ’ vattu is used to represent love. Calligraphic style is used for its beauty and dynamism.

3) Mother holding a child; The two counter spaces are used to show the faces of Mother and Child for this exploration. The first counter is larger to accommodate an adult face while second counter is smaller for the child’s face. The curious face of the child is expressed by a pair of gleaming eyes and the calmness on the mother’s face is in her closed eyes.

4) Child in Womb; The beginning of Life starts at the beginning of the letterform. The background is dark to depict the womb.

5) Playtime; A very bright colour and a paper cutout style is used to show the playful bonding of mother and child. Floral flourishes are used to depict the same.

6) Mother lifting her child; Sciography is used to show the limbs of the child.
