మిడత..Buzz off you Locust

మిడత pronounced Midatha is a word in the Telugu language which means locust.

Buzzing their way into our Covid-19 affected lives.. Locusts are now being feared as the next wave to plague India after the inflict of Corona and cyclone Amphan.

The danger being they damage the agricultural crops which could lead India to starvation; it being an agricultural economy. Locusts can feed on to their body weight equivalent in a single day. So now imagine the damage that can be done by a swarm of them!

The following typographic expression in Telugu represents how Locust can consume and feed on the potential agricultural harvest of India. It is a quirky way of replacing the talakattu ( similar to the umlaut which changes the pronunciation of the letter) of the middle letter ‘Da’ originally written as ‘డ’ with the locust itself as if it has consumed it and continues to do so.. until the letterform disappears.
